We've taken everything we've learned about the ever popular Equilibrium over the years, added some key modern features like wider rims and tyres for outstanding comfort, grip and faster rolling characteristics and built it around KVA's excellent MS3 double butted tubeset to produce what is comfortably one of the classiest looking, best performing road bikes in the whole 2015 line-up.
Upon first glance you might be forgiven for thinking that not much has changed with the Equilibrium (“if it ain’t broke”…) but a number of small, but key tweaks have paved the way for some bold new spec, further emphasising the supreme comfort and confidence-inspiring qualities of the Equilibrium. With the UK’s road surfaces showing no signs of improving anytime soon, we took it upon ourselves to ring through some changes to our best-selling, road all-rounder…
Up front you’ll find a new fork that’s slightly longer in the leg and wider in the crown than reviosu years’, whilst out back we’ve added +3mm chainstay length, which, together make room for 28c tyres on wide 22/23mm rims, yet still leave clearance for mudguards too. The result is a sublime riding, fast yet comfortable modern classic.
We know it’s an awful lot of money to laying down for a bike so with this in mind, should you wish to treat yourself to an upgrade of the electronic persuasion a little further down the line, you’ll find we’ve handily future-proofed the Equilibrium Stainless, including full Di2 internal compatibility, allowing for a hassle-free, clean looking swap to electronic shifting.
A true modern classic.
New kid on the block for us, still stainless, still awesome, MS3 was introduced early in 2014, building on their award-winning MS2 Martensitic Air-Hardened stainless steel tubeset, bringing vastly improved corrosion resistance and toughness to the table (developed originally for aerospace landing gear applications). Every part a ‘super steel’, MS3 sits right alongside XCR, 931, etc. with a tensile strength of 1400MpA - the easiest way to visualise it would be to think of it as a stainless equivalent of Reynolds 853.
BB86 Press-Fit Bottom Bracket provides the basis for a stiffer, more efficient pedalling platform and wider spaced bearings which helps spreads the load increasing longevity to help you keep spinning smoothly mile after mile
New-school wide (22/17mm) Alex AT-470 rims combined with 28c Conti Grand Sport Race tyres give a vastly improved tyre profile and an increased interior volume, allowing lower pressures and increased comfort without a loss of speed. We've also upgraded to Sapim Race butted spokes help to offset the weight gain of the larger tyres. Try them at 80PSI and see for yourself!
Looking to turn the Equilibrium into a daily commuter? No problem - the built-in rear rack mounts, long-drop 57mm brakes and mudgaurd eyelets allow simple and easy fitting
